Police today arrested nominated MP Sheikh Dor in Nairobi and took him to the CID headquarters for questioning. His arrest comes in the wake of a cabinet order for security forces to deal firmly with the MRC and politicians as well as clerics and other persons suspected of funding the group.

Dor said he is ready to fund the MRC since the group had been cleared by a court. He said this over the weekend after Muslim clerics launched the Unity Party of Kenya in Mombasa.

The MP arrived at the CID headquarters under tight security and left soon after to an undisclosed location. The nominated lawmaker is among a group of MPs, clerics and business persons being investigated for their involvement in the alleged funding of the MRC.

Last week Cabinet ordered security forces to crack down on the Mombasa Republican Council threatened to ban the group for a second time.

Early this week, police arrested the MRC chairman Omar Mwamnuadzi along with 36 others suspects in an ongoing crackdown.

The Internal Security ministry has vowed that it will not relent with the crackdown on the MRC until normalcy returns in the coastal region.
